The Embassy of Colombia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands celebrated 207 years of the Colombian Independence

On 20 July 2017, the Embassy of Colombia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands celebrated 207 years of the Colombian Independence Day at the Marriott Hotel in The Hague with the concert of “Joropo” music with the Colombian group “Cimarrón”, nominated in 2005 to the Latin Grammys and awarded in 2012 in the Independent Music Awards. The concert was followed by a reception and buffet with typical food of the country.

The Ambassador of Colombia Juan José Quintana and his wife María del Rosario Navia, welcomed more than 250 guests among which were members of the Diplomatic Corps in The Hague, high level representatives of international Courts and Organizations, officers from the Dutch government, entrepreneurs, journalists, artists, academics and activists.

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Juan José Quintana emphasized the historic moment of Colombia with the disarmament of the FARC and the verification process by the United Nations, which is a reason to celebrate. Similarly, he highlighted a facet of the country that is not very well known in Europe: the “Llanos Orientales” and the “Joropo”, opening the floor for the concert of “Cimarrón” with its traditional music and dance while the guests had the opportunity to taste typical Colombian dishes.

The guests were able to enjoy the Colombian gastronomy and the enthusiastic and autochthonous traditional music from the “Llanos Orientales”.
