Colombian Peace Agreement in Leiden University

 

On 18 April 2018, the Ambassador of Colombia in The Hague, Juan José Quintana, gave a lecture about the peace process in Colombia to students of Leiden University in The Hague headquarters.

During the presentation, organized by the Latin American Committee of the International Studies Program Student Organization of Leiden University, the Ambassador presented: the background and timeline for the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC, for its Spanish initials), the content of the agreement emphasizing about the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, and the challenges of the post-conflict stage.

The event ended with a questions and answers session.

On 26 April 2018, the Ambassador also explain the same topic in a course about Latin American Foreign Policy Issues, as part of the International Relations Master of Leiden University.

The Ambassador presented the key elements of the Peace Process that led to the signing of the Agreement between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Arm Forces of Colombia -FARC: an overview of the content of the Agreement and the importance of the Post Conflict stage that Colombia is facing.

The students were very enthusiastic and raised several questions, not only about the topic presented by the Ambassador, but also about the current Colombian political context and its bilateral relations with The Netherlands.
