Ambassador of Colombia in The Hague, participated in the meeting between the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors and Heads of Mission

 

On 18 April 2018, the Ambassador of Colombia in The Hague, participated in the meeting held between the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stef Blok, and the Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors and Heads of Mission in The Netherlands. 

During the meeting, Minister Blok referred to Latin America and the Caribbean as a “sister region”, not only due to the vicinity with the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, but also to the fact that both share values and interests. In addition, he stated that Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean seek to continue working together in a productive way since they need each other.

The presentation on behalf of GRULAC was made by the Ambassador of the Republic of Perú, Carlos Herrera, in his capacity of coordinator. During his intervention, Ambassador Herrera expressed the diversity that characterize the Latin American and the Caribbean region, in which coexists different regional and sub regional mechanisms that reflects the common interests, sensitivities and different needs.

Furthermore, Ambassador Herrera specified that the Latin America and The Caribbean Region is biodiverse, represents one of the most stable and dynamics economies of the world, and is a region of peace that follows the international law principles and has a firm commitment with the multilateralism. The migration, security and illegal trafficking were mentioned as common issues of the region and areas of possible cooperation.

The event ended with some interventions by other Ambassadors on bilateral issues.
