Europol recognizes the Colombian Government and the Colombian National Police leadership and effort in the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement against the global criminal fight

On 20 April 2018, the outgoing director of European Police Agency (EUROPOL), Mr. Rob Wainwright, recognized at an official event the work of the Colombian Government and the National Police for their cooperation and commitment in the fight against transnational crime, especially since Colombia joined EUROPOL to contribute having a safer Europe.

This recognition was received by His Excellency Juan José Quintana, Ambassador of Colombia before the Government of the Netherlands, and the delegation of the National Police of Colombia headed by Major Jesus Eduardo Cruz Silva.

Similarly, the highest honor of the National Police was awarded to Mr. Rob Wainwrigh, a distinction conferred by General Jorge Hernando Nieto Rojas, Director of the Colombian National Police of Colombia, in gratitude and recognition to his 9 (nine) years administration as leader in charge of this agency.

In the framework of the international relations with Europe, Colombia has been recognized for its successful model facing new security and citizen coexistence challenges, as well as the implementation of an integral strategy to successfully confront all kinds of criminal and terrorist demonstrations. These has strengthen its professionalization and constant training in the fight against transnational crimes that currently affects worldwide.

This agency was preparing to face the new crimes that would affect entire countries such as currency and arms trafficking, until new threats arrived such as cyber-attacks, computer fraud, and new markets that would take advantage to use addictions to position synthetic drugs, prostitution, human trafficking and child pornography.

The standards established by Europol to achieve the advance of the agreement are demanding and standardized, nothing that the professionalism and commitment of men and women of the Colombian National Police will not be able to achieve. After more than 10 years of results, the Institution not only has been able to share information, but also able to manage one of the largest information network in Europe. Thus, developing a whole structure and leading research that allows the American continent to move forward in the fight against any criminal modality.

This official event was a space of gratitude on behalf of a country and society that has seen the work of committed men, who were trained as honest and integral professionals, to position their mission with Colombian citizens with strong results in the quest for peace and citizen’s security, as well as to make the world a better place to live.
