The Ambassador of Colombia to the Netherlands organized a guided tour of the exhibition of colombian artist Ana Maria Millán in Rotterdam

Embajador de Colombia en los Países Bajos realizó la visita guiada a la exposición de la artista colombiana Ana María Millán

The Hague (Oct. 19/18). Within the framework of the Promotional Plan of Colombia Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Colombia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands held on 18 October 2018 a visit of the work of the Colombian artist Ana Maria Millán in the Center for Contemporary Art “Witte de With” in Rotterdam, guided by Director Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy and Curator Rosa de Graaf. This is the first solo exhibition of Ana Maria Millán in the Netherlands.

The event started by welcoming a selected group of guests of the diplomatic corps of The Hague and the academy with typical Colombian snacks followed by the tour of the exhibition. This exhibition centers on the artist’s research on the relations between digital cultures, gender and performativity. The artist work was a combination of three animations and a series of watercolor paintings where Millán portrays the people who supported her in the creation process of her animations along with the character each of them developed.

Millán approaches animation as a tool to invent and incorporate narratives, in which people that create the characters claim a space and explore their identity through the fantasy genre, a feature of the gaming culture.

The visit ended with a questions and answers session and a space to share perspectives about the subject.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 6 January 2019.
